Customised window sills and door frames for Slingeland Hospital, Doetinchem

The Slingeland Hospital in Doetinchem is set to open at a new location next year. It is a large and complex construction project, in which every detail must be just right. Wiggers was involved in the design of the window sills from an early stage. That role expanded further as the project progressed. In addition to the window sills, we also contributed ideas regarding door frames and recesses. As a result, more and more components were completed in advance, reducing the number of tasks required on site.

By observing the work on site and providing active advice, we developed a comprehensive solution that not only aligns with the design but also with the practicalities of implementation.

Smart solutions for a complex situation

The window sills were a key focus of the project. ‘Due to the sloping position of the window frames, caused by the concrete structure, a standard solution was not an option,’ Han Siemerink, Account Manager at Wiggers explains. ‘That’s why we developed a window sill that slopes upwards: narrow at the window frame and wider towards the outside. This prevents the need for on-site filling and ensures the profiles fit seamlessly.’

Aesthetically speaking, the bar was set high too. The architect had chosen a specific colour that was not available from stock. Han: ‘Our film supplier was able to produce the film in exactly the right colour. Together with the contractor, we assessed the test prints to ensure that the colour and wood grain matched the design perfectly.’ As a result, the window sills blend seamlessly with the oak door frames, creating a calm and consistent interior aesthetic.

In addition to the window sills, we supplied customised door frames and recesses. The door frames are made from HPL and are made to measure. The white recesses ensure that services are neatly concealed from view and are fitted with inspection hatches where necessary.

Delivered ready for installation and in line with the schedule

We supply all components fully ready for installation. The window sills were delivered in protective packaging and could be fitted straight away. Only the door frames were cut to length on site. ‘This preparation allowed us to shift work from the construction site to our factory and minimise the number of tasks required on site,’ Han explains.

We bundle, label and deliver everything by floor and section, fully in line with the installation schedule. This ensures that materials are never left on site longer than necessary and that installation can begin immediately.

Han: ‘Given the scale and complexity of the project, we actively guided the contractor in simplifying the drawings and making practical choices.’ As a result, the contractor needed to hold fewer coordination meetings, fitters were able to continue working straight away, and the project remained on schedule.

The result is a complete range of customised profiles that fit in perfectly with the building and the schedule.
