Custom profiles for 249 student flats

Planning ahead prevents work on site

For this project, we supplied window reveals, window sills and ceiling skirting boards. It soon became clear that a standard solution would not be suitable in every instance.

‘Where the window reveals are concerned, residents need to be able to open the windows fully,’ explains Maurice van Eerd, Account Manager at Wiggers. ‘That is why we adapted the profiles and fitted them with a recess. This allows the windows to open and means no additional work is required on site.’

This approach began right from the preliminary phase. The details of the products, the protective film and the method of delivery were carefully coordinated, in collaboration with Van Wijnen. A mock-up flat was also fitted out, so that it was clear in advance exactly what the end result would look like.

According to Erwin van Manen, site manager at Van Wijnen Arnhem, this is precisely where the strength of the collaboration lies. ‘Wiggers thinks beyond simply supplying products. Everything was organised in advance, packed logically and delivered with clear labelling, enabling the fitters to get straight to work. That saved time and kept the project moving forward.’

Delivered per floor and ready for immediate use

As the work was carried out in phases, the right materials had to be available in the right place at the right time. We therefore labelled all products clearly and delivered them packed per floor.

Erwin: ‘We used the tower crane to lift the scaffolding frames directly to the correct floor. The fitters were then able to easily unload and fit the profiles. This saved a lot of time compared to sorting and distributing the materials ourselves.’

To prevent confusion and damage, we supplied floor plans and marked all components with clear stickers. Window sills were even given a special pictogram sticker to ensure that construction workers would not place tools on them.

Delivery and installation coordinated

In addition to delivery, we also handled the installation of the profiles in collaboration with a regular installation partner. This meant that Van Wijnen had a single point of contact for both delivery and installation. ‘The fitters knew exactly what they had to do,’ says Erwin. ‘It was the same team working on the project, so there was hardly any need for explanations and any challenges were resolved immediately.’

Coordinating logistics and installation enabled work to continue immediately as soon as a floor was ready. This avoided unnecessary searching, prevented extra steps on site and made it easier to carry on working according to schedule.
