Quick completion of a large-scale renovation project
For a large-scale renovation project in Utrecht, Heijmans was looking for solutions that would enable homes to be finished quickly and with minimal disruption to residents. The renovation of 260 homes, spread across several apartment buildings, required a tight schedule and as many ready-to-install solutions as possible.
To this end, we supplied customised reveals and prefabricated ceiling systems that arrived on site fully ready for installation. During the project, our role expanded further, and we also contributed ideas for additional finishing solutions around window frames and window sills. As a result, the contract evolved into a broader scope of finishing work for the homes.
Systems concealed without the need for additional finishing
As part of the renovation, many homes were fitted with new ventilation systems, pipework and drainage. These installations had to be neatly concealed without the need for additional finishing work on site.
To achieve this, we developed customised recesses in various sizes, tailored to the specific circumstances of each home. ‘Because the recesses were provided fully finished, on-site painting is no longer necessary. This means homes can be handed over more quickly and disruption to residents is kept to a minimum,’ Maurice van Eerd, Account Manager at Wiggers explains.

In addition to the recesses, we also supplied prefabricated ceiling systems for bathrooms and toilets. These ceiling systems feature integrated service hatches, ensuring that systems such as heat recovery units remain accessible for maintenance without having to break open the ceilings.
Deliveries coordinated with the renovation schedule
Maurice: ‘As on-site storage space was limited and the project was carried out in phases, we coordinated the deliveries with the progress of the work.’
We delivered all products by project phase, floor and property. Stickers clearly indicated where each component was to be installed. This meant that fitters could get straight to work, without first having to search for or sort through materials.
Rick: ‘The phased deliveries were very important for this project. Everything was delivered per phase and down to the house number. If that doesn’t happen, it causes a lot of disruption to the process.’
‘We also collected the pallets that we delivered the products on after use. This reduced waste on the building site and also prevented unnecessary storage of materials,’ Maurice says.
Active participation during implementation
The project began with the delivery of recesses and ceiling systems. During the implementation, we identified further opportunities to simplify the finishing process.
Maurice: ‘When it became apparent that existing window reveals were being damaged during the removal of window frames, we worked with the client to find a suitable finish. Ultimately, we also supplied finishing profiles for window frames and window sills on the ground floor.’ This created a consistent look and meant that the contractors had fewer different suppliers to coordinate.
By supplying an increasing number of components fully ready for installation, coordinating deliveries with the construction schedule, and actively contributing ideas throughout the project, we helped complete homes more quickly with less coordination and less work on site.
Rick: ‘We would definitely involve Wiggers again on a similar renovation project. They contribute ideas, deliver on time and honour their commitments.’
